Why Sudan

According to the 2008 BP Statistical Energy Survey, Sudan had proven vast oil reserves of 6.614 billion barrels at the end of 2007 or 0.53 % of the world's reserves.

The upstream oil industry could be key to the future of the economy of the North East African state of Sudan. Although the country is considered to be vastly under-explored, it has been a producer of oil and gas for a number of years. The downstream oil industry in Sudan is an important sector in the country's economy as Sudan has three refineries and imports both refined product and crude oil. The completion of a new refinery has made Sudan largely self sufficient and able to export refined as well as crude products.

The Ministry of Energy and Mining and the Ministry of Finance regulate the industry and Planning is also involved in the energy sector.

Agip, ExxonMobil, Nile Petroleum, and Shell carry out distribution and marketing of fuels products. The distribution infrastructure consists of river, road, pipeline and railway systems, all of which are in need of improvement. There is a product jetty at Port Sudan, and 55 storage depots with a total capacity of 285 000 cubic metres. A pipeline runs from the refinery at Port Sudan, the country's major seaport, to the major consuming centre of Khartoum.

The country imports dry bulk goods such as wheat, cement as well as bulk liquids such as vegetable oil and lube oils. In addition as the infrastructure continues to be improved there are major opportunities for heavy lift vessels and project cargoes.

Our offices are fully operational and staffed in conjunction with our Sudanese partners, Darka Trading & Services Ltd, who are one of the leading shipping and forwarding companies in Sudan. The company was established in 1983 and has a comprehensive coverage of Sudan for all types of transportation solutions.

Our service commitment to all our Principal's in the region remains at the same high standard and we would be most grateful to be able to represent you in Port Sudan for all your ships agency requirements.
