Sturrock Shipping

About Sturrock Shipping

Sturrock Shipping was founded in 1969 as both a ship's agency and clearing & forwarding company in order to provide a full supply-chain service for the handling of sea transport and the import and export of goods into and out of South Africa.

By the end of the 1990's, the company was already established as one of the largest locally privately-owned shipping and logistics companies, but with its presence still largely confined to South Africa itself.

A change in the leadership and ownership of the company and significant changes in the political climate provided the springboard for massive regional expansion in the first decade of the new millennium.

Beginning first with the English-speaking countries of Kenya and Tanzania, the company set about expanding its reach to include Mozambique, Madagascar and Angola. More recently, the company established a presence in Sudan and is in the process of doing so in Ghana.

A need for more muscle led the company to conclude an empowerment deal with the Calulo Group in 2007, in terms of which Calulo acquired major shareholding in the company.
The Sturrock family continues to retain the remaining interest in the company, in order to ensure the continuity of relationships with customers.

In 2009 the company celebrated its 40th anniversary with the unveiling of its new "vision" - to be globally recognised as the leading ship's agency, clearing & forwarding and logistics company in sub-Saharan Africa - and a new corporate identity reflecting the company's status as substantial and modern, with an appetite for continued growth in its industry and in the continent that it serves.
